Bridge International Group Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Chairman & CEO: Yoshida Yusei) and its subsidiary BRDIGE International Asia Sdn Bhd (BIA, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; President & CEO: Shingo Abe), together with the General Incorporated Association Web Analyst Association (WACA, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Koji Kamei), will launch a collaborative project in February 2026 to support Japanese companies expanding into Southeast Asia. In this project, certified web analysts will collaborate with BIA, a local partner, participating in support from marketing strategy to execution. Using this scheme, companies wishing to enter markets in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries are being recruited.

Background

According to a survey conducted by the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation (2024), 31.0% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) answered that they have "interest," "plans," or "are implementing" overseas expansion, but only 13.3% have actually carried it out.

The main reasons are (1) lack of marketing personnel (32.9%), (2) exchange rate risk (32.9%), and (3) inability to develop reliable local partners (31.9%) (multiple answers allowed). On the other hand, the most cited factor for successful overseas expansion was "reliable local partners" (54.9%), indicating that having trustworthy local partners is essential for success.

While the importance of digital marketing is increasing in Southeast Asian markets, language and cultural barriers, as well as differences in regulations, have made it difficult to secure personnel capable of data-driven strategic planning. Although the government promotes overseas expansion through initiatives such as the "New Export-Oriented Nation Consortium," practical marketing support at the operational level is still insufficient in the field.

Overcoming these challenges could support overseas expansion for about 30% of Japan’s 3.36 million SMEs (as of June 2021), potentially up to approximately 1 million companies. WACA, which has supported domestic digital marketing, sought methods to help SMEs achieve more effective overseas expansion, leading to collaboration with Bridge International Asia.

Through this collaboration, we will strongly support Japanese companies’ overseas expansion through both practical support and personnel development.
